Welcome to my Campaign #Arinze2BusinessSchool
My name is Arinze David Nwanna, I am a 21-year-old from East London in need of your assistance to further my education for a Masters in Financial Technology at Imperial College Business School.
I was born and raised in Nigeria, in a family of six. We lived through many hardships in Nigeria and more during our migration to the UK. Coming thus far is beyond a testimony and marks one of the reasons for my discipline and focus towards success, and service to others. In 2006, I and my family were very close to homelessness many times; lucky a lady allowed us to stay in a small bedroom in their house - five of us lived there– three on the floor and two on the bed. My mother worked 2-3 unlicensed jobs and washed dishes so that we could eat at least once a day. Leaving Nigeria, I believed I was coming to the promised land and didn’t know poverty was a reality in the UK. However, a diamond can only be made under intense pressure, likewise, the character I have furnished is a function of intense hardship, therefore if I could change all the hardships in my life, I would not. I believe, through my childhood and early teenage years, I have come to know the true meaning of hard work, resilience, and altruism.
When I and my family came from Nigeria, I was out of school for 1- 2 years, because my mother being alone found it hard to manage all the children and sort out schools for all of us whilst working seamlessly, this put me very behind mentally and behaviourally, I was not at all, as smart as the other students and I didn’t seem to fit in. I was often scared in school because In Nigeria I was the only white looking child in my class so I was often bullied by others in my class, and was beaten frequently. As I grew older and began to understand the struggles of my family, and then also seeing some of my age mates go to prison and one who died from stabbing, I knew regardless of how hard this was going to be, I have to make it in this life. I began working seamlessly to the point where I would take at least 3 energy drinks a day at GCSE.
Long Term Vision
My goal is to be an example to my generation that with hard work, focus, discipline and Trust in God, despite the hardships littered across life, one can transform their lives and that of those around them. In this way, I have committed myself to service to God and the love and service of people. Within 15 years through excellent entrepreneurial endeavours in the FinTech scene, I wish to build a charity, both in Nigeria and here in the UK. This will be an opportunity to fund, mentor and groom young children from impoverished backgrounds to become men and women who will be outstanding change-makers to that society. This is the story of my own life and I desire to commend the same to many others.
I am currently a final year Chemical Engineering Student at UCL on track for first class. Following my extensive research across the finance sector, looking at trends and speaking to financial professionals, I strongly believe for relevance and sound preparation for impact in business and finance, in this age of technology, I will need a strong foundation in finance and financial technology. In light of this, I am seeking to do all I can to be able to master and leverage the knowledge given in the course to later serve my community through business and financial services.
To do this, I will need to raise £54,500 (Cost breakdown included below) within the next 8 weeks or else my offer will be withdrawn and I will no longer be able to pursue my Masters in FinTech.
