Sarah has been offered a place to study a Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy at Harvard University in the United States. The school of Public Health at Harvard is one of the most prestigious and well respected schools in the world and will equip her with the skills she needs to make a difference to health policies on a national and international scale. On completion of her MPH Sarah plans to champion healthcare policies that will address existing health disparities as well as improving future pandemic preparedness.
Sarah is a British Ghanaian Infectious Diseases junior doctor currently working in the NHS who throughout the pandemic worked on the frontline caring for hundreds of patients with COVID-19. During this time she witnessed the devastating impact of this infectious disease on humanity and how COVID-19 disproportionately affected people from Black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds. This experience reinforced her passion to make a real difference to health inequalities in the country which have led to decades of disparities within our society.
As well as working on the frontline during the pandemic, Sarah used her spare time to combat misinformation online and in the community. She has been a guest speaker on numerous talk shows and webinars. She has also played an active role in vaccine advocacy to encourage ethnic minority uptake of the COVID-19 vaccines and highlight the need for vaccine equity.
The tuition fee for this course is $65,000 but in order to get the student visa, she needs to show she has at least $95,000 in her account. This is to show that she can afford the course as well as financially support herself throughout the year. The deadline for this is coming up in early June.
She will be using her savings and some loans to cover her costs, but unfortunately it won't cover everything. She is not licensed to work as a doctor in the US and work is further restricted on a student visa so is unable to cover costs through other employments. Sarah has always worked hard and has chosen a career dedicated to helping others, but now we think it's time we helped her! Please help us to get Sarah to Harvard!
Please help us to support Sarah - no amount is too small :)
