After completing the 100k London football stadium tour back in August 2020, Garry and I started to think about what the next realistic challenge two amateur cyclists who can barely change a tyre between them could possibly take on.
We landed on Edinburgh to London. 450 miles of beautiful open countryside, which if completed in Google's estimated 5 days, would see us parked up outside Brixton Weatherspoons before 2pm on Saturday 8th May. Lovely.
Though partly for the fun (if you can call it that)/challenge, we both thought it would be a good opportunity to try and raise money for some fantastic causes, close to our hearts, that could really do with some support.
The chosen charities:
Garry - Molly's gift
Molly’s Gift is a fundraising trust set up in honour of Loughborough Foxes Vixens captain, Molly Webb, who sadly passed away on 6th January 2019, at just 25 years old. Molly and Garry were both coaches at the club when she sadly passed.
The trust aims to provide funding opportunities for youth development in sport, particularly for disadvantaged children; something that was incredibly close to Molly’s heart.

Garry - Heads Together
Heads Together is a mental health initiative spearheaded by The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, which combines a campaign to tackle stigma and change the conversation on mental health with fundraising for a series of innovative new mental health services.

Ashley - Black Minds Matter UK
Coming from a black family, I know how much of a stigma Mental Health can be for people in the black community. Most of our parents and grandparents were raised in an environment where you were discouraged from showing emotion and encouraged to put on a brave face at all times. This is something that's affected me and people I know in adult life, making it sometimes difficult for us to open up and talk about what's going on.
That's why I'm raising money for Black Minds Matter. A group aiming to connect black individuals and families with free mental health services and mental health topics more relevant and accessible for all Black people in the U.K.

Ashley - Football Beyond Borders
For those that know me, you'll know that football consumes about 90% of my life and always has done. I'm a big believer that football can be a vehicle to help transform people's lives and have seen it first hand through my work and through my coaching.
Football Beyond Borders is a charity that shares that belief. Supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are passionate about football but disengaged at school in order to help them finish school with the skills and grades to make a successful transition into adulthood. Financial support ensures they can continue their good work and grow to engage with even more young people across the country.

We know it's a difficult time for everyone at the moment but even the smallest donations will have a big impact on people who need our help now more than ever.
We'll be documenting the trip so please follow us both on social media to follow along. If anyone would like to join us for any part of the journey, details of the route can be found below.
Thank you all in advance for your support.
