PLEASE NOTE : the current fundraising total includes £43,200 that was raised (and spent) during the first stage of the pandemic (Mar-June 2020).
If we manage to hit our target of £50,000 we will be sending £6,800 in food and donations to frontline staff for January 2021. Thank you!
During Christmas, buythemacoffee_KCH began conversations with Kings College Hospital to understand how the staff are being supported during this relentless second surge. The stats are worrying, in the week before Christmas, the number of covid patients within the hospital trebled - so on 23rd December we delivered some supplies for the wellbeing Hub and for front line staff - using the last of the funds raised during the first peak back in 2020.
As we move into the New Year, the staff at Kings are handling the same number of covid patients as they did in the April peak. It has been referred to as “the calm before the storm” with cases expected to grow throughout January following Christmas and New Year. As it stands, the second wellness hub has now transitioned to a vaccination clinic, but efforts to support staff in the main wellbeing hub continue.
We are sharing this update with you in response to a growth in enquiries about whether buythemacoffee_KCH will start again. 2020 was so challenging for local businesses and families, that it feels less straightforward to ask you all to support the staff at Kings College Hospital with donations. This sentiment and concern has also been voiced by staff at the hospital. What we know is that so many of the meals and food donations provided during the last peak are more difficult for businesses to support and that the economic situation is more challenging. We also know that the psychological and wellbeing needs of the exhausted staff at Kings is the same as it was in April 2020. So if any of our local communicate are able or willing to donate, we would like to support the staff at Kings.
We know from speaking to locals that the support and gratitude for the staff at Kings College Hospital remains strong.
So, at buythemacoffee-KCH we are restarting our efforts to support frontline staff at Kings. We will use what funds we can collect to support local businesses and stock the wellness centres for frontline staff. And we will volunteer at Kings in order that we can support their own efforts to look after everyone’s wellbeing during this challenging time.
If you would like to support the team, any donation no matter how small would be appreciated.
We will keep you up to date with emails and through social media on our efforts. And we continue to be thankful for the team at Kings College Hospital and the local community for working together to come through this crisis.
Your ideas and support are so welcome.
This campaign is focused on stocking the Wellbeing Hubs used by staff at the Denmark Hill and Princess Royal Kings for Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We provide fresh fruit and vegetables; groceries; hot food and drinks as specified by the on-site staff running the wellness hubs at Kings College Hospital.
BuyThemACoffee_kch is working with multiple local vendors to deliver food and services to the Kings College Hospital Wellness Centres. For full transparency, I will be personally withdrawing the funds raised here to pay vendors. We are donating 100% of funds to deliver these items and services to the hospital workers and will be working with local partners and KCH to make this happen.
We are not associated with these local providers or the Healthcare Industry - we are simply looking to mobilise our community to help in a small way and we are starting here... to follow along please visit: https://www.instagram.com/buythemacoffee_kch/
