We now have our own place & Now more than ever, we need to open soonest to help young people restore their lives and give them an open space to be free and talk about what they’ve gone through during CoVid19 & establish what will help them move forward from it. We need funding for furniture, electronics, computers, books, equipment etc. There will be homework club and tutoring available to help children and young people get better and achieve higher in Maths, English and Science. There will also be various sports, leisure and recreational activities that will keep children and young people active and engaged when they are in the centre.
We will be a place that offers sex, relationship and mental health advice and a place that can help young people with CVs and getting into apprenticeships or universities; a place where they can also learn various skills and trades.
It will run to keep children and young people busy and on track with school and home life. They will always have someone to talk to them about life or help them with school work. We will also be open every day during holidays, to take children and young people on fun and educational trips. This will be very good for children and young people from low-income families, who cannot afford to go on holidays or are too busy to spend time with their children.
We have spoken to children, young people and parents in the community and they are excited about us doing this and hope it is something we can do as they strongly believe it will benefit the community.
My team and I are extremely dedicated to getting children and young people off the streets and stopping them looking for or getting into trouble; by keeping them busy in a bigger space and centre with fantastic facilities.
In our current setting, we have a clientele of 63 children who we have been helping in various ways. There are excellent testimonials from parents who have said their children have improved in school, home and life in general. We don’t just help them but we talk to them and give them advice, by helping them realise they can achieve anything they put their mind to.
However, as it is not our own space, we are very limited to when we can use the space and how many children can come in daily. Our facilities are also limited because we do the little we can from spare money we have in our pockets.
With funding raised, we are hoping to get our own space and set it up with facilities that will keep children and young people engaged in a fun environment; while they learn educational and life skills outside their normal school environment.
We also hope we are able to spread out to make and do the same thing in other communities too. We will aim to make Coventry brighter by hosting fun days and events and creating an awareness of enthusiastic and positive youths in every community.
From a young age, I have always wanted to give back to the community. I became a secondary school teacher as I believe education is important and children flourish when they are educated in any way or form. It’s not just about teaching but mostly about allowing children and young people have fun while learning. However, there is so much teaching maths can do. Unfortunately, there has a been a rise in knife and gun crimes in Coventry recently and this has been taking our young people’s lives; by killing them and putting them in jail.
This is because some are idle and have nothing to do at home or look forward to. They are blinded by social media and have no real guidance.
Our main goal now is to change this by building a fun, happier and safer community for children and young people; to establish themselves from a young age with the right confidence to being successful and outstanding citizens in future.
As we now have a place, we still need much funding to set it up. When this happens, we will use part of the funding to also hold a launch day that will showcase the centre to residents in and around the community, where people will see what we’re about and how amazing & safe it’ll be for the children and young people in the community. The Mayor and other people of interest from Coventry city council will be contacted to come and support in the opening on the day too.
Any funds left will be used to ensure the day-to-day runnings of the centre.
For something like this to be born and for it to flourish, please believe nothing will be too big or too small and everything given will be greatly appreciated as it will go towards birthing something great and positive for our children and young people. Thank you.
