This week has seen our local MP vote against providing food to our poorest children over the half term and Christmas break. Whilst I understand that the government do not want to commit to this for every holiday, right now we are in the middle of a pandemic and things are not the norm. Many of us have lost jobs or are working on less pay than normal. It’s been super tough and families should not have to choose between heating and feeding their children.
I know first hand what this stress feels like and I don’t want other people to feel the same if we can pull together as a community . I have been helping Alton Community Cupboard during the pandemic and I have seen first hand how many of their ‘Waste Busters’ really have been so overwhelmed by the food donations. No referrals, no questions just food. But donations are dropping off and they do not have enough food to help out specificity with providing extra school dinners for those who need them without this extra help. The Alton Community Cupboard however will remain open as normal during half term.
I have set up this go fund me so that I can buy some £15 vouchers from the local supermarkets to donate to alton’s community cupboard. This is the same value that the Government provided over the summer holidays and it made a real difference.
If you find yourself in a position now that you can donate to this go fund me, please do. Together as a community we have been amazing , let’s now help feed our children.
