CARRION: Help Yvonne Make Her Film!

CARRION is a coming-of-age folktale about an 8 year-old Chinese American girl called Mengmeng, who grapples with her mother's unresolved grief after death comes knocking in the form of a long-lost soul. For more information on the story and team, check out our website (www.carrionthefilm.com) and follow our instagram @carrionthefilm .

CARRION is at its core an ode to my mum. It's drawn from the very first moment I saw her cry as a child; that paralysing call to every child at some point in their lives to take care of the person who has cared for them. I want to explore the power of even the smallest acts of care to bring us, and those we love, out of paralysis.

It's also a story that has born out of my own personal struggle this year to find hope in a world haunted by unimaginable loss, and a fear of what's to come. Anti-asian hate crimes have been rising over the last year, with a disproportionate number of these attacks targeting Asian women. With CARRION, I want to tell a story that centres Asian American women, empowered to find roots of their own, finding healing through mutual care. I want to tell a folktale for immigrants, that finds hope and catharsis at the end of the dark path.

I'm so proud of all the energy and work that has gotten us this far. If there's anything you can contribute to help us get through this last stretch, I would be endlessly grateful. I know this has been a really rough year — thank you either way, and thank you for making it this far down the page.

Lots of love and gratitude from the other side of the world,
Yvonne

CARRION is a short film led by the only all-female team in the American Film Institute cohort, and it is our final thesis film. We were humbled to learn last week that we received the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Production Grant, which has helped us raise 67% of our production budget. We now have 3 weeks left to reach our target. Can you help us reach our goal?

It took me far far away from home, but studying at the American Film Institute has been a dream come true. I'm so grateful for all the support I have received to get me here. Now I need your help to get me to the finish line!
