Will you help others who cannot pay for their energy?
We’ve kick-started the People’s Energy Covid Community Fund with over £1,500 of personal donations from our staff. We’ll use all of the money to help our members in the greatest need, by reducing or freezing their payments for a period of time. Each case will be carefully assessed and evaluated so you know your money is going to the right people. We know this crisis has hit everyone’s pockets in one way or another. But whatever you can spare will help raise someone out of fuel poverty.
People’s Energy is a social enterprise. That means we exist to do good, not to make profit for external shareholders. We founded the company in order to do business in a more human and compassionate way. And we were funded by ordinary people who wanted the same. We are passionate about ending fuel poverty.
The number of people who tell us they cannot pay anything towards their bill is growing. For many people, government financial support is months away. We can’t help everyone as much as we would like. Our pockets aren’t deep enough. We have to ensure the business remains robust for the future, to protect our staff and our members. We were just starting to make a small profit as this crisis hit, and we sadly don’t have the funds to offer the level of support we would like to. It is incredibly difficult to hear these heart-breaking stories, and yet be so limited in the support we can offer. Please help us to help them.
**Update 22nd April 2020**
We have been able to help our first member in financial difficulty this week. Our team have also begun contacting members who have told us they are struggling to pay and inviting them to apply to our Community Fund. There will be an application process so we can ensure we help those most in need. We will be fully transparent and publish later on how many members we've been able to help.
