Support R4R's COVID 19 Emergency Response

As Europe responds to the COVID-19 crisis, refugee camps on the Aegean Islands have been neglected and left unprepared for an outbreak that would devastate the camp communities. Our teams on the ground are doing their best to provide emergency relief, and we need your support now more than ever.

At this moment, almost 20,000 refugees reside in Moria camp and just under 8,000 in Vathi, Samos. Living conditions in the congested camps are horrendous, with shortages of toilets, showers, running water and hygiene items making it virtually impossible to maintain a basic level of hygiene. The spread of COVID-19 amongst these already-vulnerable communities would likely be disastrous.

In the Olive Grove on Lesvos, we are transforming the Mandala children's space into an emergency medical shelter. Construction has started, and upon completion will provide 20 rooms with a total of 80 beds to be used as a quarantine space in the event of an outbreak.

We are collaborating with other actors to find a way to ensure essential items can continue to be provided to residents of Vathi, and are currently seeking permission to reopen the Free Shop in the coming weeks.

By donating to our COVID-19 Emergency Response campaign, you are supporting the purchase of:

- Wood and other materials to construct emergency medical shelter
- Construction tools to be used by our teams and the camp community
- Bedding to be provided to individuals who are quarantined
- Wiring to ensure electricity is provided to each room
- Essential hygiene items to be distributed on Lesvos & Samos

Through your generosity, we can continue preparing for an outbreak in the camps and ensure we continue providing emergency relief for the most vulnerable populations.

Thank you for your support,

Sophie & The R4R Team
