We formed Friends of TOJ to support Michael and his wonderful staff while weathering the COVID-19 crisis, but also to ensure Tavern on Jane will survive to the other side of this. Whenever normalcy returns, we will all want to come together with familiar faces at beloved neighborhood spots.
Michael and his staff have remained open during the pandemic to provide neighbors some comfort and a small sense of normalcy. Those who know Michael won’t be surprised to hear he has been personally delivering meals to his higher-risk customers.
Tavern and Michael have always been there for us. The annual block party is an October fixture in the West Village and Michael’s love letter to his community. Less visible are the dozens of gift cards TOJ donates annually for local school fundraisers, and the golf tournament Michael has hosted since 9/11 that has raised more than $350,000 for charity.
Our hearts go out to everyone touched by this pandemic. We mourn for those who have been lost and for their surviving loved ones. We also ache for all the financial hardship this has brought on so many.
This hardship has hit small businesses hardest and Tavern on Jane is no exception. The Friends of TOJ kindly ask you to consider a donation of any size to help Michael Stewart and the staff at Tavern on Jane survive this unprecedented time. We all look forward to gathering together at Tavern on Jane in better times ahead.
Thank you, and may you and yours stay well.
