I'm Ryan Davin aka The chillishamrock. Starting 00.00 on the 1st July 2021, I’m attempting to be the first person in history to complete a 400 mile triathlon starting in Dublin and finishing in London which consists of a 60 mile run, a 96 mile ocean row (Ireland to UK) and a 245 mile cycle, all powered by human muscle and mental fortitude within 90 hours time frame. I’m embarking on this challenge for two reasons
1: To raise vital funds for a mental health charities and prove anything is possible!
2: To raise awareness for sustainability and zero carbon travel.
My chosen charities which I will be dividing the money 50/50 between;
A Lust For Life (Irish) = https://www.alustforlife.com/
Multi-award winning Irish mental health charity based in Ireland that uses content, campaigns and events to facilitate young people to be effective guardians of their own mind - and to be the leaders that drive our society towards a better future
The Mental Health Foundation (UK) = https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/our-work
The Mental Health Foundation, a charity who realises nature is so central to our psychological and emotional health, that it’s almost impossible to realise good mental health for all without a greater connection to the natural world.
The 400 mile triathlon consist of:
Run (60 miles) (ETA 14 hours)
The run begins at Dublin’s highest landmark the Spire. Running 60 miles south via the Wicklow mountains to Arklow harbour in County Wicklow.
Ocean Row (96 miles) (ETA 48 hours)
The row departs Arklow harbour, following the Celtic challenge route 96 miles ocean row across the Irish sea to Aberystwyth, Wales. I will be accompanied by two others in the boat for safety reasons. My rowing partner will be Mathew Pritchard who appeared on Dirty Sanchz back in the day and most recently hosted the first BBC Vegan cookery show Dirty Vegan. This row will be good training for my up and coming row across the Atlantic.
Cycle (245 miles) (ETA 20 hours)
The final leg will be a 245 mile cycle from Aberystwyth, Wales to London with 15,000 ft worth of climbing which is the equivalent to x14 Shards stacked on top of each other. Finishing at the Shard, London!
