My adored son Tomtom was born with a genetic condition called Idic15. He has a severe learning and behaviour disability, is non verbal and is autistic. Tomtom is now 7 and doing well but still has his struggles.
A year ago I became a single mum. I gave up my career as a biomedical scientist in order to become a full time carer for him as well as a mother to my daughter.
life is tough for us, finding any kind of funding is hard.... really hard! and all I wish for is for an all weather garden for my son to let off steam. He hates being cooped up indoors as he doesn’t like playing with the usual toys etc, he much prefers to be outside feeling the wind, smelling the the air and running his hands through the plants. I’m not able to facilitate this myself alone with 2 small children so an all weather garden would mean the absolute world to us. Unless you live a life with a child with severe special needs, especially as a single mum you probably won’t understand my desperation. When most parents get to sit down in the evenings with their kids happily playing/watching tv or just doing what they do, parents like me are constantly on the go and it’s hard. Once my kids are finally asleep, I go to bed as I know I’ll be up at 5am. I don’t get to sit and watch evening tv or relax on the sofa with a coffee. I don’t even get to sit and do my daughter’s homework with her
ive tried all avenues for funding but no one is willing to help us.
it honestly pains me to have to set up this fund, but as a mother I will do all I can to help my children
