I have never done anything like this before however this is something I really want to do to help!
There is an elderly lady who lives in one of the bungalows on our estate, Betty. We have always looked after Betty and made sure she was okay, when lockdown hit we told her to stay in and that we would do her shopping for her, and anything else she needed. She is the loveliest lady and is so thankful of this. She posts her list through each week and I take her shopping round to her, I leave it outside her door and have a good chat with her each time from the doorstep. She’s told me all about her life and her family, in which, her husband has sadly passed away and also her son. She has lived on her own for quite a while now.
On Saturday afternoon she walked over the road to her friends bungalow in which they had a little chat in her front garden. She had locked the front door and back door but unfortunately had left the side patio door unlocked. She was over at her friends no longer than 20minutes. During this time, she was burgled. I am truly devastated as much as she is She had all her jewellery stolen, her rings and sentimental pieces from her husband. Her purse and money, her tablet, special coins she was saving for her great grandson who’s autistic. She had saved lots of pound coins for her TV license and she told us she’d saved more than enough for that and said she would treat herself to something nice, that has all gone. Her camera, which held all the pictures of her son, the last thing she had left of him. She is gutted.
We went over to see Betty after the incident, where she told us she had wept all night. This broke my heart. She is the happiest, bubbly lady you will ever see bouncing down the street. To see her this way was awful I just wanted to give her the biggest hug, but of course, we couldn’t. She cannot claim anything back on insurance as the door was unlocked. She said to us, “It’s my own fault”. She is 89 years old and had just forgotten to lock the side door.
Betty will be 90!!! Next month, and we would really like to give her the best 90th birthday! After all this, although we won’t be able to get her back the sentimental things, it would be amazing to get her that treat she wanted for herself and hopefully a bit more!!
I would be more than grateful if you could spare just a couple of pounds for Bet, I can’t tell you how overwhelmed she would be if she knew lovely people wanted to help her out!
If all my friends on here donated just £1.00 we’d have an amazing sum of money to treat Betty!!!
Let’s give her the best 90th year
Thank you so much❤️
