TWS Animal Sanctuary - 1st phase

Todd's Welfare Society (TWS) is a small registered non-profit organisation, based in Lahore that came into existence in 2016. TWS aims to save, rescue and treat the street animals of Lahore, and also works to promote animal welfare in Pakistan. In a country with no animal welfare law or provisions, our work to protect these vulnerable animals is extremely difficult. The condition of stray animals is pitiful as animal abuse is rife with dogs being routinely starved, shot and poisoned. Dogs such as Aurora, shot in cold blood, her only crime to have been born on the streets.

We also work with donkeys who make up large parts of the working community in Pakistan, and whose condition is extremely pitiful. They work day and night, without proper access to food, water or medical treatment. Once they are too sick or injured, they are just dumped and left to die.

TWS are trying to save these animals in an environment where these animals are considered unclean or a nuisance. These animals have no one to turn to and live a life of pain, abuse and torture. We help to provide them with shelter, medical assistance, rehabilitation and homes.

The sole aim of TWS is to save, rescue and treat the street animals of Lahore.  To help those that society has forgotten about.

In 2019, when our current sanctuary was built, we opened our doors to the street animals of Lahore. Our sanctuary is the very first in Lahore and has helped to treat hundreds of rescues and provide a permanent home to those too sick and disabled to survive on the streets. During these past few years, we have tried to help as many as possible but now we have now completely run out of space and cannot expand our projects as we had hoped. These new projects include helping donkeys such as Averon and Elmwood, for whom we are hoping to build a completely separate donkey sanctuary, the very first of its kind in Lahore.

We also need a separate TNR facility with kennels, clinic, operating theatre and post-op kennels. A separate TNR facility will mean that we can spay and neuter as many street dogs as possible to reduce the population humanely and protect them from being culled. The separate TNR facility will also allow us to reach a larger population of street dogs and keep them separate from our more vulnerable rescue cases.

We also wish to build more dog kennels and larger cat enclosures to accommodate more rescues. We desperately need bigger and better quarantine facilities to avoid the risk of cross contamination as these animals often carry contagious diseases. We also have no post-op areas for dogs to allow them to recover fully and without mixing.  We need a separate area exclusively for puppies.  Sadly a common occurrence in our work is having to rescue orphan puppies, tiny babies  who have lost their mother to dog culling.

Not only have we run out of space but our current sanctuary is also costing us to much to maintain. The land is gradually sinking and even though we have tried to rectify the situation many times over the years, the problem is still reoccurring. The boundary walls are sinking, leaving large cracks meaning that large areas of the sanctuary and some kennels are out of bounds to the rescues. Our sanctuary has helped us to save so may precious lives but its now time to upgrade our facilities. We envision a state of the art shelter to help those coming through our doors.

The pool has been repaired countless time but sadly is in no fit state to be used for the rescues, which is worrying as the long summer days are fast approaching.

We urgently require your help as we needed it when we were building our sanctuary which was solely funded by our kind donors. We know you will not let us down. We receive absolutely no government funding whatsoever and rely 100% upon donations from our kind and generous supporters. We are going to be raising funds in two stages; the first stage will be to purchase a much larger area of land. We will then start to build the boundary walls and lay the foundations of the sanctuary. Once purchased, we will start the 2nd phase of the build and hopefully complete the sanctuary with state of the art clinics, operating theatres, cat and dog enclosures and other important areas for the running of the sanctuary on a 24/7 basis.

Please help us to reach our target as we are ever so desperate to save lives. Please note all donations will go towards the sanctuary as we all work on a purely voluntary basis.

Help us as you will be saving lives. Please we rely on your support and hope you will join us on our journey towards a better life for these wretched creatures, lives such as Bunty, who knew nothing but pain and abuse at the hands of humans.

For those of you new to our work, we also have a close and special relationship  with Dogbus Transporting Lives, Saving Lives a charity based in the UK.

Dogbus helps transport and rescue animals across the UK and those in countries such as  Romania, China and Pakistan.  Only recently they sponsored fully for 9 of our dogs to travel to the UK to find themselves forever homes. Dogs like Ebony who would never have found a home in Pakistan.

I myself am the Vice Chair of TWS but am based in the U.K. I joined TWS as the state of street animals in the city of Lahore where I grew up saddened me and I wanted to help these poor wretched creatures. My role is to run our twitter page and fundraise for TWS outside of Pakistan, so that as many animals as possible can be saved. Once the funds are raised I forward to our finance team. Please note that we are officially audited and our financial statements will be available online on our website or by request.
