FUND JUSTICE FOR JOHN

£25,888 of £250,000 goal

My name is John Winskill and I am a British Army veteran.
Volunteering for military charities has been really important to me over the last 15 years.

In 2012 I volunteered once again, this time with a UK military charity to help injured military veterans to be the first disabled team to complete the infamous Dakar Rally Raid; a 9000km desert vehicle race across Peru, Argentina and Chile.
The charity veterans team was made up of both British Army and US Marine Corps injured servicemen, as well as specialist civilian mechanics.

The team’s goal was to raise money for the lifetime care of injured veterans and to prove disability was no barrier to competing in motorsport.

On the night of 9 Jan 2013 and after the day’s racing had concluded, four of the team’s support vehicles were moving South in a controlled convoy on public roads, heading to their next overnight stop.
One of the race cars was being towed as it had broken down earlier in the day. We hoped to repair it over night and return it to the race the following day.

During this road move at 9.30pm, the logistics support Land Rover Defender that I was driving, was involved in a head-on collision with a local Peruvian taxi just outside the border town of Tacna.
Tragically the driver and a passenger in the taxi were killed in the collision, and myself and my two colleagues in the SUV were badly injured.

I was medevac’d home to UK for recovery and have since fought hard to regain my strength.
Sadly like so many recent veterans, I was diagnosed with PTSD following my military service and multiple overseas operational tours.

Below picture shows me and Corporal Dave T during  covert surveillance operations on Serb war criminals in the genocide fields of Central Bosnia.

This collison in Peru has dramatically increased my mental ill health and fragility.

On 7 Feb 2018, more than 5 years after the collision and having not been invited to provide my account of what happened by the Peru authorities, I received notice from the Peruvian courts, indicting me as being responsible for the fatal collision

My world has fallen apart once more.

A review of the vast amount of video footage, photographic imagery, and witness statements taken from the British and US military veterans at the scene, indicates that I bear no responsibility for causing the fatal collision.

The Peruvian court has not permitted this evidence to be considered.

I am determined to present the truth for all the families involved.

To fund this I sought to claim on the Charity’s legal insurance policy to pay for defense attorneys in both London and Peru. Regrettably I have since discovered the UK Charity Trustees had chosen not to secure legal insurance for any of the injured servicemen and the Charity ceased trading in 2014.

My family and I now need to find hundreds of thousands of £ to fund the entire legal defence case.

I am Daddy to four young children; Lisa and I really need your help.
“I never imagined I’d see my life turned upside down in this way from volunteering.  I can’t thank you enough for doing what you can to help me and my family expose the truth and bring some comfort to the families grieving for their loved ones.  How cruel it would be to allow a misdirected prosecution to layer injustice upon tragedy” Thank You
