Bravo 9 RIDING FOR LIFE

£7,342 of £8,500 goal

Raised by 115 people in 10 months
Thank You for taking the time to click on my Fundraising Campaign link "Bravo 9 RIDING FOR LIFE."   The title hopefully speaks for itself.   As a Blood Bike Volunteer Rider, I have the enormous privilege of undertaking these IMPORTANT and sometimes LIFE SAVING  duties on behalf of the NHS.    Sadly, we receive no external grants to provide this FREE out of hours service on their behalf and so have to source funds ourselves.  I have taken it upon myself to attempt to fund the running costs of Bravo 9, which is the BLOOD BIKE for the West Devon Team, for 12 months.  My estimation is £6,500 but, of course, I hope that the Campaign will exceed this amount.

We are made up of Volunteer Riders who have to fund our own Advanced Licence's and complete a Check Ride before we are permitted to undertake the primary function of the Charity on the Kawasaki 1400 GTR's - fully liveried Blood Bikes.   Most Riders also work full time jobs too before undertaking the Duties of 1700-0700 Monday to Friday and 24-hours over every weekend in all weathers.

On a daily basis we collect and deliver bloods and samples from several local Doctors Surgeries, URGENT samples from the Plymouth Dialysis Unit at Roborough and anywhere else within the County for the NHS as directed by our Volunteer Call Handlers.

As well as this, we remain on call throughout the night of the Duty for other URGENT issues such as Emergency Resupplying of Donor Breast Milk to Neo-Natal Intensive Care Units (NICU) both in Derriford and Treliske (Truro).  This undertaking gives premature babies, of just 24 weeks gestation onwards, the greatest chances of survival.  The milk is relayed down from Bristol to Derriford or onward relay travel as requested.

These parts of our Duty are extremely satisfying but my more recent activities have really highlighted to me just how good involvement with this Charity really is.

Not so long ago, I was tasked to be at a particular hospital during the early hours to assist with a major harvesting of Donor Organs.   It was a mixed emotional event for me.  I was acutely aware that in order to save life, someone sadly had to lose theirs.   After a long drive, I personally delivered the Organ that we had transported to the Renal Unit where the recipient was waiting to have this chance of life.  To me, this was, and is, a HUGE privilege to be part of.

More recently, I was again tasked with an early start at another hospital, during my off shift this time, to transport a patients’ final bloods, before transplant, for onward travel to the Capital.   RIDING FOR LIFE again, I covered 220 miles on BRAVO 9 in a 'comparatively short period' to do my part before handing over to the East Team for the remainder of the journey.   Another successful transplant was reported to have then taken place.

The thought of 'RIDING FOR LIFE' is an INCREDIBLE feeling and one I would certainly urge others to get involved in.

For those who never have enough time, my favourite quote comes from the wonderful George and Betty Ross in Falmouth:  "The most valuable gift you can give is time ....................................................................................................... given freely."  Why not come and give some of yours too.

Raising awareness of what we do is equally important and to those who I invited to like the Devon Free Wheelers Facebook Page and to support us, Thank You for looking and Thank You to those who have donated.  It is also important through this awareness that if you see a BLOOD BIKE approaching from behind you that you please make the effort to let it passed.   It may not be your bloods, samples, babies breast milk or transplant items this time but it will be someone elses.   THANK YOU

As stated, I am part of the West Devon Team and I ride BRAVO 9 (below), the subject of this fundraiser.

Although it is the Charity's bike, I am fully aware that there are substantial costs involved in keeping it on the road, keeping me and my fellow Riders of the West Team safe and, of course, enabling us to continue RIDING FOR LIFE.

It is with this is in mind that I hope I can call upon friends near and far to assist me in funding BRAVO 9 to keep it on the road for another 12 months.   You don't have to go mad, but please feel free to if you are happy to do so.
Donating  £5 will fuel the bike for up to 70 miles of vital travel which will be a great help.

THANK YOU SO MUCH if you are able to support me but if not, please share this as wide and why consider joining us as a Rider, a Driver, a Fundraiser or a Call Handler.

DO SOMETHING GREAT AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO SOMEONE IN NEED TODAY.

THANK YOU

Ok, so it's been a little while since last I did an update. The current total as you can see has broken through the £3k barrier which is quite pleasing although it still remains a challenge to get people to see what this Charity and its Volunteers really do and in so doing, and donate to this Cause.

I am, however, grateful to ALL who have made the leap so far and supported this especially Manor Lodge Residential Home in Exmouth who continue to Sponsor me at £50 per month - Thank You Ray Lovegrove and the Team.

After a little break for personal reasons I am back in the saddle tomorrow 12/11/18 to attend a fundraiser by the wonderful Geoff and Marie at Sew Enchanting in Princetown, Dartmoor who were one of the early bird significant Donators. On Thursday Bravo 9 and I will be at the Torpoint Community College for an awareness day. It looks like this will not only be an opportunity to make a couple of bob, but it may well lead to a MUFTI according to its organiser, Jen Childs. This will mean that all 3 local schools will have supported this important Campaign.

Sadly, both HMS Ships Queen Elizabeth and Albion have had their fundraising pulled by the Powers that be aboard which is extremely disappointing. Daniel Bladen on QE had put much time and effort into his support campaign, Bravo 9 was ridden to the ship to raise awareness prior to deployment, some incredible raffle prizes were sorted by Dan and then it was vetoed.
Ryan Spiller was also working hard to support this but again it seems to have been vetoed aboard Albion. From the times when I was aboard when you could raise money for any Concern you liked - all seems to have changed now. It seems that unless it is an ‘authorised’ Ships Charity - you have dipped!!!! I remain grateful to Dan and Ryan though for trying. I will get around it on some Ship someday.

And so to finish on a positive note: next Thursday the Band of Her Majesties Royal Marines Plymouth have kindly agreed to support the Bravo 9 Go Fund Me Campaign by permitting us to hold a raffle and conduct a collection. It is hoped to make between £200-300 - fingers crossed. I am again grateful to HMS Raleigh and the Band for supporting me in such a way.
Finally, and again a positive note, the West Country Gunner & Missile Instructors Association have agreed with my Presidential choice to support the Go Fund Me Campaign. This will guarantee a further £500 for the pot.

Thanks again to EVERYONE who has already supported us already.
Please feel free to share this Campaign far and wide after all, we ride far and wide as Volunteers in all weathers to save lives.
ONE DAY IT COULD BE YOURS OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW.

Blood Bike Update August 2018

Well in 3 months the BRAVO 9 Go Fund Me page has gone from nowt to the amazing total of £2,836!! This is an incredible amount and I would again like to SINCERELY THANK EVERYONE who has given so generously. Of course there are still a ‘few’ of my friends out there who have yet to see the light and get aboard but I am sure that you will get there in the end. My line remains
WE RIDE FOR LIFE – NEXT TIME IT COULD BE YOURS OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW!!
Unfortunately, something so simple always has inevitable complications. For instance, the Devon Free Wheelers Collection Pots that have graciously been accepted and filled in various locations for the Campaign, I am advised, can only be counted at our Main Hub in Honiton by our Fund Raisers and cannot be paid into the Go Fund Me Campaign account. Those of you who know me well, will appreciate that I AM NOT BLOODY HAPPY!!! For the time being these funds are being credited to the ring fenced part of the main account that that the transferred funds from the Campaign go to. This still means that every penny I raise will STILL only be used to run BRAVO 9. These will, for the time being, be classed as offline donations and these can only be shown via updates.
So the offline donations to date 17th August 2018 are:
Lis Carney-Howarth Head Teacher at Torpoint Nursery & Infant School £256.84
Enid at Costcutter Torpoint £39.41
WO Vincent HMS Raleigh RWE £62.80
Ann Askew St Budeaux £112.55

TOTAL: £471.60 HUGE THANKS TO THE ABOVE FOR THESE OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS

ON AND OFFLINE DONATION GRAND TOTAL: £3307.60

Thanks to All who have made this possible.

Another great piece of news is that Manor Lodge of Exmouth have set up an ongoing monthly DD of £50 into the Campaign. HUGE THANKS to Ray Lovegrove and the Residential Home for this OUTSTANDING support.
Pictured below is the wonderful 102 year old Vera Sedgemore whose day was made up by getting to sit astride Bravo 9.

WOW!!! £2,465 raised in just 7 weeks.
I would like to offer HUGE THANKS to All who have contributed including some sizable donations from people who don’t even know me. The generosity of you All will make such a difference and go towards making Bravo 9 self-sufficient over a 12-month period.
Special mentions should go to:
Geoff and Marie at Sew Enchanting https://www.sewenchanting.co.uk/ (Princetown)
The West Country Gunnery Instructors Association
Jorge A HeRon at https://www.shopforever-jack.co.uk/
Counsellor Richard Scott (Exmouth)
Ray Lovegrove (Exmouth)
Pete Hamlyn and the Staff and Pupils at Carbeile Junior School
My youngest Daughter Georgia xxxxxx

I am also very excited about some of the income streams set up locally to support this Campaign as well as extra-curricular support from Ryan Spiller on HMS Albion (deployed) and Daniel Bladen on HMS Queen Elizabeth (soon to be deployed).
Over the next month Bravo 9 will be making appearances at HMS Queen Elizabeth (9th July), Torpoint Infant School Mufti Day (11th July) as well as HMS Raleigh Open Day on 1st August. All of these will hopefully raise our profile and vital funds to keep Bravo 9 serviceable.
I am extremely grateful to all who have seen just how import this Charity actually is.
Just to remind those reading this, Bravo 9 and its Volunteer Riders are out in all weathers at all hours transporting, bloods, samples, documentation, Pharmaceuticals to private addresses, donor breast milk to Derriford and Treliske NICU’s (Neo Intensive Care Units) as well as pre-Organ Transplant bloods far and wide.
IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY DONE SO, PLEASE CONSIDER DOING SOMETHING AMAZING TODAY.
SUPPORT THIS CAMPAIGN AND KEEP BRAVO 9 RIDING FOR LIFE.
NEXT TIME IT COULD BE FOR YOU!!!
Thank You.

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
