In response to the recent Earthquakes and Tsunami that hit Indonesia, our team is preparing to provide the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing with solar powered emergency lights and CLEAN water with our partner Waves for Water. We will begin searching for Deaf/HH where the quake destroyed 67,000 homes and displaced 350,000 people now living in camps.
Why is LIGHT so crucial especially during a crisis? Check out our latest article on: How LIGHT affects the Deaf & HH
The MPOWERD "EMRG" Luci Light that we will be distributing provides all functionalities necessary for a person who relies on visual communication. Check out this video to learn about the light:
What will these expenses cover: The travel/transportation cost to navigate the island affected by the disasters in order to search for the Deaf/HH to distribute light and clean water; hiring of a local guide on the island; cost of emergency supplies and baggage fees.
Please share, donate, share and if you choose to donate "anonymously", please provide your email/mailing address on the backend so that we can follow-up with you accordingly after the mission!
The Team at Off-The-Grid Missions
As you know, this mission is in response to the earthquakes and tsunami in Indonesia that have displaced thousands of people. There will be three different islands that our frontlines will be working to provide relief. The first island Sumbawa has been indirectly affected with aftershocks and there are about 70 Deaf/HH on this island —some isolated, in poverty and without basic needs; the second island Lombok has been heavily devastated by numerous earthquakes —here we have not yet located the Deaf/HH; and the third island next to Lombok is Bali which is heavily populated with Deaf/HH and has been affected by recent aftershocks and a volcano eruption this past summer.
There have been individual needs of the Deaf that are coming to our attention so we will begin to share what those needs are and ways to help.
Thank you to those who have donated, and to our sponsors and frontlines ground team who make our work possible! Feel free to follow us online at @offthegridmissions or visit our website at: www.offthegridmissions.org
