Sound Memories Radio Station
With your help, Sound Memories has successfully developed an inclusive online radio station run by and for older people, housing a library of life stories to create inclusive resources for reminisence, as well as creating a bank of dementia friendly environmental sound maps.
We are currently raising funds to carry out research with older people who are at the later stages of dementia, developing visual resources of the places that they still remember.
We hold digital storytelling events at Care Homes where we showcase digital stories & music before they are uploaded to our station, so that we can celebrate those taking part with their family, friends & local community and get feedback about the content of the digital stories before sharing them.
Thanks to your support, our Online Radio Station www.soundmemoriesradio.com has over 500 listeners and over 40 volunteers have helped us on our journey, mostly in their 60 -90's who share stories and life memories or help behind the scenes.
Here is a picture of some of the Dementia Friendly Award Winning resources that Sound Memories has already made that have been distributed to libraries :-
Your funding pays for visits to User Groups that have been set up and a Committe of older people in residential care to advise and lead on the project, responding to need. Sometimes we work one to one, helping people to transfer their video and music into digital format so that they can easily store their memories, other times we all work as a group, including family and carers, all helping each other and having fun in the process.
Your donations enable Sound Memories Radio the continuity it needs to maintain relationships with those taking part. Thanks to your donations, our bank of soundscapes is growing into a Rural and Coastal Sound Map for those who are no longer able to get out and about, such as recordings of seasides along the Carmarthenshire Coast.
An example of our work can be seen in the sharing of Louie's Life Memories the picture below, which became a book, a CD, an Exhibition and Children's Story Trail in Llanstephan where she is from.
Together, we can be the loving and respectful change that we want to see in the now, which ultimately , my friends, will impact our own future and how we receive support for ourselves &/or our loved ones. Thank you so much for your time, your energy, your love and your support and off course, your donations.
'My name is Cheryl Beer. I am the Founder & Director of Sound Memories. I have 30 years experience in Arts & Health. If you would like, you can find out more about me here ... '
Just a quick update to tell you about our current fundraising project, Fallen On Deaf Ears. Musicians from Wales, Ireland, England and Germany have recorded a tribute to my work as a songwriter, before I became hearing impaired, and all the profits from the sales are being donated to Sound Memories Radio. It was the idea of Music Mogul, Michael Kennedy from Welsh Connections Radio Show & Soundboard Magazine. 25 people took part in making so, gifting their time, venues and recording studios. The results are amazing!
The hard copy sales of the Limited Edition CD have been going really well, especially in Germany. There are now only 28 copies left! So, I wanted to give you the opportunity to purchase one before they run out. They are just £6.00 each and the postage is £1.20 in the UK. If you are outside the UK, I can find out the postage cost for you.
Once the hard copy Special Edition CD's are SOLD OUT we will be releasing a download of the album on Bandcamp, so this is your only chance to purchase the CD. You can order it from here: www.cherylbeer.com/fallen-on-deaf-ears.html
I can't tell you how touched I am that the music community is celebrating my lifetime work in this way and that the proceeds are helping us with the day to day running costs of Sound Memories is fabulous.
Thanks for your continued support
As the Summer comes to a close, so we look to start a new Autumn project at Sound Memories, an exciting Storytelling Page so that our listeners can cwtch in by the fire and listen to some tall tales. We have 5 lovely stories already recorded with great storytellers, but we are looking for a sponsor, to help us cover the cost of setting it up and managing it. If you would like the opportunity to sponsor our Storytelling Page, we will tell all our listeners about you by dedicating the page to you and putting your logo and a link to your company with a thankyou. We are looking for @ £100.00. What a wonderful gift you would be giving our listeners who can't get out as they did, but would be able to freely listen to stories, told to them in their own home. Thank you for your kindness and generosity,
Director & Founder

Would you like to sponsor our Wildflower Gallery at Sound Memories Radio? We had a tremendous response in our first week. 269 people visited the Gallery and we already have 8 photographers exhibiting the wild flowers from their gardens.
We have set up the Gallery as volunteers but we would like to cover the £250.00 administration costs throughout the Summer. We are looking for a sponsor to help us with this. If you would like to sponsor the Wildflower Gallery or make a contribution towards it, we'd be very grateful. We'd put a thank you on the page or perhaps dedicate the page to your loved one. For example: ''Sound Memories Wildflower Gallery is funded by .... in Memory of .... '
We want to keep our radio station free to all the people that visit it so that they can come as many times as they like and we rely on your kindness, to keep running.
