Zimbabwean Citizens declared a mass stayaway from 14-16 January 2019 in protest to the over 250% increase in fuel prices without commensurate safety nets for the people. The government responded with a massive police and military operation that has left people displaced, missing, injured and traumatized. This fund seeks to help those affected get food, medical and shelter  relief during this period.

HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE DISBURSED
We have a network of  activists in the country who are taking stock of the situation. We will work with them and other non-governmental organizations to ensure that food & other needs are availed to victims. So far we have identified  volunteers to deliver food to those that have been caught up in the dragnet  detentions  around Harare including Matapi, Remand and  Harare Central.

The money will be withdrawn and sent via Western Union or World Remit and sent to OneChurch which has been instrumental in organizing for relief.

HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT
At this point we are looking to provide food and medical supplies like bandages, detergents and disinfectants to those who are are displaced or in detention.

WHEN WILL THE MONEY BE SENT
The situation is dire, there is also a lot of uncertainty given the blackout that the government has instituted. We will be sending the donations as soon as available from  this platform.

WHO ARE WE?
I  (Freeman Chari) am an activist from Zimbabwe based in United States.  I am volunteering here as a Citizen that has also been pushing for change in Zimbabwe.  I have worked with many  civic organizations  in Zimbabwe. I will be coordinating the team of fundraisers & volunteers. I have run similar campaigns in response to similar circumstances in the country. I will be giving updates  through Facebook, GoFundMe and Twitter and as usual I will try to be as transparent as I can be without compromising the safety of the folks we are trying to help.

Today we are bringing to a close the Zimbabwe Freedom Fund. We raised US$3500, which effectively was about $3200 less the platform fees and the sending charges. We gave US$1500 to One church which was assisting with food for most of the more than 500 detained in Harare. Thanks to Sean Mullens & team. The remaining US$1700 was exchanged in Zimbabwean RTGS/Ecocash dollars and we ended up with $4670. We assisted many families in Bindura, Mvurwi, Mbare, Marondera, Kadoma, Headlands and Mutare. I would like to thank the team on the ground which I can't name for now and the lawyers & local leadership for logostical support. I am just going to post most of the receipts here. I wanna thank all who donated and shared the campaign. Thank you folks!! May you all be blessed. Please find all the receipts here https://www.facebook.com/freeman.chari/posts/10217624610822680

This week we passed through farms around Headlands/Rusape and helped a few families who were affected too by the shutdown arrests. I have blurred the faces because of they expressed their fears of victimisation. In Mutare there were 18 people still in detention. We left food for them and their families in the good custody of their lawyers at Maunga Maanda & Associates. I know to most people this is a distant memory but there are people out there still suffering. I have received SOS pleas even from neighboring countries where some people have sought refuge. Thank you!

Today we delivered 24 food hampers for the 24 families of those who were in detention from Chitungwiza. We left them at the law firm of Job Sikhala who happens to be their defense lawyer. Thank you again for your help!
